Got 151 today. And I thought my subscription had expired.
Apparently not, since I'm still good til 155. Whee and shit. So... here's my
lame review.
Anyhoo.
The cover was a nice pic of Sonic floating in some bubbly sea-green water.
The first story was "Chaos Emeralds are Forever"
It starts off with Sonic, who must've just landed in the Anti universe, and he
finds himself surrounded by the EBIL Anti-crew, which includes the regular
Antoine...and surprise, surprise... Anti-Bunnie! And we thought she didn't
exist! xD She's sporting an attire of black; hat, leotard, knee-high boots and
spiked arm and wrist cuffs. She's also unroboticized.
So...Sonic gets kicked around by the Anti-crew for a bit, and the scene
switches to Mobius Prime, where EBIL Sonic is approaching the 'babelicious'
Rouge. She tells him she was on
Back in Anti-verse...
Sonic is trussed up by rope and hanging upside down from a tree... which is
atop a cliff above an ocean. Dun dun dun. The Anti-crew uses their laser
watches to skewer the ropes and Sonic plummets to his death. HAHHHAA.
The END.
This whole scene actually reminded me of a fic by Steven Zacharus, where
Geoffrey St John kidnaps Sonic and throws him off a cliff to his (supposed)
death in the water below. Ah, sweet betrayal.
Back on
Rouge and EBIL Sonic touch down near a cave that Sonic claims houses the Chaos
Emerald. Locke is just emerging, so, after a very brief word to E. Sonic, Rouge
walks out of the bush and proceeds to...
Back on Anti-verse again.. Whew.
The Anti-gang is peering down the cliff and gloating most EBILLY. They are
surprised when Sonic's voice comes from behind them. Surprise, surprise, the
hedgehog isn't dead! The Anti-crew angrily faces him, but Antoine isn't so
sure. Something in Sonic's voice stops him for a moment. Then he regains his
resolve and decides to make the supposed EBIL Sonic pay for stranding him in
the Anti-verse. He swipes at Sonic with his sword. Sonic avoids it and tackles
Ant, throwing him out of the picture for... good? I dunno. He then throws
Bunnie and Sally off the cliff, kicks Tail's ass, and beats Rotor up before
demanding to be sent back home.
...back to Rouge. She's engaged in conversation with Locke. EBIL Sonic slips
into the cave while Rouge starts hitting on the old-ass echidna. (No kidding)
Locke: "I'm not sure I understand what you want."
Rouge: "Somebody to love me! Is that too much to ask?" *GLOMP*
EBIL Sonic gets into the Emerald Chamber and is confronted by... DUN DUN DUN...
Sonic Prime. They start fighting and stealing each other's shoes. Outside,
Locke fights his way out of Rouge's smoochies and dives down a secret entrance
into the chamber. He sees the two Sonics and decides the one wielding a rock must
be bad Sonic, since 'Sonic would never resort to a weapon." Unlike the
incident with Rotor and the guns, I can't actually think of a scene that
contradicts that O>O But I'm sure there is one.
EBIL Sonic gets thrown out of the cave where Rouge gets pissy
because he's sooo useless. She turns to leave but he shows her a small emerald
he managed to pick up somehow and she flies him away to do naughty hanky-panky
things.
Sonic Prime gets flown back to Knothole by Locke and is almost immediately
glomped by Amy. He walks her home and is puzzling over Amy's blatant affections
(he never noticed before? xD) when he hears Bunnie calling to him and asking
when they can continue their 'date' from before. Sonic is bemused. So am I.
Because I just don't see Bunnie ever hitting on Sonic. But hey, that's just me.
ONTO THE NEXT STORY!
"Stargazing"
This story was written and illustrated by some chick named Tania
Call me crazy, but I rather liked this short little piece, which focused around
Sally.
It starts with a narrative from Sally, saying how the FF's become so consumed
with surviving that sometimes they forget the simple things in life. The things
that make you feel alive.
Sally awakes one night to see a shadow by NICOLE. She thinks it's her
imagination until her door creaks open. She dons her vest and boots and goes
out to explore. She ends up in the woods by a small pond, where a strange lynx
(?) girl is breathing in the night air.
She approaches the girl, who is startled, but then relaxes when she sees it's
Sally. Sally wonders how the girl knows her name (Hey, you ARE a princess,
Sally! Doesn’t everyone?) She then wonders why the heck this girl
sounds like NICOLE.
Why, because the girl IS NICOLE, of course. A hologram, maybe? But when Sally
grabs at her, she is able to touch the girl's arm.
NICOLE admits this is a complex simulation that she's been working on ever
since she and Sally switched bodies in that goofy story a few issues back.
NICOLE just wants to experience stuff like Sally does. Sally tells NICOLE to
stay in a Mobian form, but NICOLE says she cannot. The program takes too much
energy to run and her files aren't secure in this form.
Tiredly, NICOLE lays on the grass and looks up at the stars. She comments how
she can analyze and chart stars with ease, but never realized their beauty until
she was in a Mobian form. She feels herself fading back to her computer form
and Sally is sad to see her go. NICOLE assures her that she'll always be there
for Sally.
She disappears and Sally looks up at the stars with a tear in her eye, because
she realizes she too is really seeing the stars for the first time.
AWWWWWWW.
Hmmm...considering this girl is a fan, possibly of SatAM... it makes me think
that the often-mentioned idea on here that fans would do better work than the official
comic-writers is pretty much true.
I thought this wasn't a bad issue at all. Amazing, I know! IMO, It almost had
the feel of the older issues (which I like).
I did have a problem with:
A: Sonic escaping from his watery grave so easy. I mean, c'mon! Where's the
suspense?
B: Poor Antoine apparently got left in the Anti-verse! WTF! That poor guy!
C: The Sonicgram that says 'Shadow's coming back' UGH!
